How can I get my art work into art galleries and museums?
Q. If I wanted to start submitting my art work to galleries and museums, what would be the best way to go about that? How would I submit my work? What are some of the best ways to creat a portfolio? Any help on the subject would be wonderful, thanks.

A. All the art galleries have a submission process. Call and ask when their judgings are. Start at your smaller galleries- or you can have your own gallery opening. Rent out a small space and invite all of your friends and family. Set up a jazz band or something.

A. If the crooks want it, they will get it! Trick is to make it hard for them, they like quick and easy grabs and nothing that will take too much time to do.

When you create an art portfolio should the picture of your work fill the frame?
Q. I have to create an art portfolio for a graduate program, my undergrad did not require it so it is my first time. I have done a graphic design portfolio but this is different to me. When I take pictures of my work should i have the painting or photograph fill the entire frame or have it up against a background hanging against a white or black wall? Thank you so much.
Asked by xxciera717xx - Sat Dec 1 14:03:35 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. best to have the image of the painting take up as much of the frame as possible unless you are doing an installation shot. professional photographers who regularly do photos of paintings for museums and galleries will use tape measure and level so that the lens of the camera is centered on the painting and that the fiilm [camera back] is parrallel to the surface of the painting. frequently the rest of the slide is "blacked out" but photographs are white walls are OK don't shoot against fences or brick walls... too distracting.

A. You won't be finding it at the galleries. Check out Etsy.com and in a pinch the art section of eBay. You can also look at the local arts and crafts shows, they often have fine art only at some events.

I'm thinking of doing work experience in a art gallery during the summer holidays?
Q. I'm in my first year at universty, I'm studying fine art and I live in Warrington during the holidays so I want to go to galleries in the north west. I want to hear from people who work in galleries, people in the art industry and those who have done work experience in galleries. I know it's a bit early but there is likely to be long waiting lists so I want to start contacting people as soon as possible.

A. It is tough to find paid work at this stage in a gallery but all small galleries could use an extra pair of unpaid hands with new exhibitions. If you send a covering letter along with your CV highlighting your ambitions and what your degree course involves and if you say how motivated, energetic and passionate you are then you will hopefully have some success. Volunteer yourself to all the galleries, big or small that you can find. I speak from experience! Best of luck, chick!

A. Financial backing ! the second most important point is location , location , location ! being in an arts district is great if ppossible . if an artist isn'T involved with their exhibit , move them on down the road ! a mixed media exhibit , particularly around holidays is good for the shared exposure & SALES . if you have a cool gallery the artists will come out of the woodwork or you can put out a call to artists .DON'T worry about competition focus on a particular art style , contemporary/POP , watercolor , ETC. . check out deviantart.COM & my site as well if you like popclt.Com or if you'D lke to ask me more questions you may write me at popclt@YAHOO.Com i have about 40 years experienced in the business of art tp. A. definitely do further research, the range you're looking for from art, animation, illustration, images, 3d, and effects, may require more than one program, and suggest finding trial software for each, for art theres corel painterX for animation theres flash, flat 2d vector, for illustration there's adobe illustrator, vector, or corel draw, for images and photos there's adobe photoshop, or corel paint shop pro, for 3d images and or animation, theres maya also maxon, and softimage xis, so it can get very complicated not knowing which direction you're opting to go, other freeware at this time, note that this is pc mostly and some mac-able, Art rage, Beneton Movie Gif, GIMP image editor Inkscape. illustrator … [cont.]

What makes someone's work a work of art, and is a conscious desire for expression a part of it?
Q. A table can be a utilitarian construction, or it can be both utilitarian and a work of art. Song lyrics can be trite and mundane, or they can be sublime works of poetry. When does a scribble cease to be a scribble, crossing into the realm of art? Is beauty a part of a the equation? A need to express? A conscious effort to create? Putting love into the work?

What is your favorite work of art and who is the artist?
Q. What is your favorite work of art, who is the artists, and why?
Asked by kar780 - Sat Jun 21 18:12:53 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Swing by Fragonard is one of my favorites. I like that it has a classical setting, but at the same time the brushstrokes are loose and free. I also love Venus, Cupid, Folly, and Time by Bronzino (it's known by a couple other names as well). It's painted beautifully with rich colors, and the subject matter is very interesting. It's got all these half-symbols that no one could ever fully understand, and it's interesting that it was designed to be confusing like that. The Raising of the Cross is another beautiful and vibrant painting by Peter Paul Rubens. There's a lot of energy in the piece - lots of dramatic tension - and the artist's depiction of human anatomy is always interesting. And anything by Dali's pretty awesome, too. =)

A. Sure it's possible. It just depends on if the shop wants to hire a person just to do one thing. Maybe you could be willing to do pedicures as well. Where I go they do have one person who just does that. Check around & get your name out there. Good luck!!

In your opinion what would make a photograph costitute as art work?
Q. What would you do to make the ultimate, perfect work of art in photography?
Asked by RBLee - Sat Dec 20 13:06:59 2008 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Art is very subjective so what's "art" to one person will be just a picture to someone else. I think if a photo is composed with a lot of thought to pulling in the viewer, then the artist has achieved "art". It expresses something that the artist wants to tell the audience.

A. Google Salvador Dali's art; ALL of his art not only breaks tradition but is severe punishment just to look at! :-) you might also consider Scream if ever a work of art specifies punishment it is the face of the person in that piece of "art"

Is it legal to use other peoples art work on my website?
Q. Is it legal to use other peoples art work on my website? I am about to launch a web site that I am currently doing research for. My question is, if I use pictures or art from public websites such as photo bucket. Is it legal to use them on my website as long as I don't claim that the images are mine?
Asked by Something strange going on! - Tue Sep 30 03:03:00 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No, it isn't legal. There are in fact only a small number of images available on the internet that you can use for your own website - and it isn't always easy to tell which ones you can use. A lot of people use them anyway because the legal owners are unlikely to find out in most cases. But put yourself in their shoes - how would you like other people stealing your art work? If you want to do it legally, check out creativecommons.org. They have a good explanation of the issues involved and also have a searchable database of images that you can use legally.
