If he's already taken 3 years of Spanish, it's probably fine for him to switch. Doing 2 years of 2 languages (as only his 9th and 10th grade year of Spanish count, most likely) is fine. The bad thing about switching is that he won't have taken the necessary classes to get to AP Level, so he won't get college credit. Also, if the college asks him to explain why he switched languages, being "unprepared for Spanish 4" is a very, very bad reason. Switching languages shows a lack of commitment, so you should make sure that he is committed to Chinese and won't be switching to German for senior year. I think he'll be okay. If he likes, he could take the Spanish AP now, before he's forgotten the language. This enables you to install Ubuntu just like a Windows app. You can remove it from your computer from the add/remove programs. This is a great way to see if you want to use it, without any risk at all to your system. If you decide you want to keep it a permanent part of your computer I would then suggest dual booting the traditional way because the Wubi installer does have some minor limitations mostly its slower. Go to and download the instlaller. It will ask you just a very few simple questions and download Ubuntu for you restart and boot into Ubuntu to complete the setup. I would suggest just good ol' Ubuntu over Kubuntu but that's just a matter of opinion. Most recruiters might not even touch you until your enlistment is almost up. You can ask them the process though, for future reference. If you were allowed to, you would need a release from your commander, and then a gaining unit taking you in. Bring it up to your chain of command if you're really interested in it, but don't get your hopes up. It also depends on your MOS. Some transfer, others don't.
