Will My Car FInally Pass Emmisions With a New Catalytic Converter?
Q. Basically, I got a lot of repair work done to my car... I was just speedy and wanted the first car I could get my hands on and that was a Mitsubishi Galant 2001 ES... The car is nice tho =/ Nvermind That tho.. So far as in repair work, Ive gotten a Tune-Up, New Tires, Front and Rear Sway Bar Links, New Brakes, Rotors and had to get a busted caliper replaced... I pass inspection after that; but failed emissions..ugh As in mechanical work, I've replaced a air intake, oxygen sensor (forgot which one tho); which it still wouldn't pass emmisons after that with a check engine light on... I finally found that I need a New Catalytic Converter and at the worst an 02 sensor... Someone one please tell me is my car going to pass emissions after that.. [cont.]

A. sounds like you've already gone through the whole check list with a new catalytic converter you should be able to pass it for sure less than replacing the whole car all together

Does my civic need a new catalytic converter?
Q. I went to auto zone the other day bc my check engine light came on. They said all 4 of my plugs were misfiring and that my catalytic converter was messing up. Every time my car is stopped at a light or in park it shakes violently. When i accelerate it shakes and makes a whistling sound. What is going on?! it's an 01 civic

A. You don't say what year Civic, so I will assume you have a model recent enough to be fuel injected. The catalytic code is probably a sympathetic code - the cat can't work until the engine is firing right. Start with the misfire. The violent shaking and the whistling sound are consistent with a big vacuum leak in the intake plenum. Leaks can be hard to find, but start by looking at the two big hoses from the intake - the one to the brake booster and the one to the PCV valve on top of the engine. Big leaks usually mean big hoses. The whistling noise is the next thing to hunt down if you don't see anything obvious.

Will a damaged Catalytic Converter affect your gas mileage?
Q. I have a 2004 Jeep Cherokee Ltd Edition and it needs a new catalytic converter. Does that affect the gas mileage? I am planning to have it repaired this week. Will driving it in the meantime cause any damage?

A. Try to get it fixed ASAP it probably won't affect gas mileage etc. but it is very bad for the environment. Driving it in the meantime will only damage the environment I don't think it will leave any damage on your car.
