Herodotus of Halicarnassus (Greek: Ἡρόδοτος Ἁλικαρνᾱσσεύς Hēródotos Halikarnāsseús) was a Greek historian who lived in the 5th century BC (c. 484 BC – c. 425 BC). He is regarded as the "Father of History" in Western culture. He was the first historian known to collect his materials systematically, test their accuracy to a certain extent and arrange them in a well-constructed and vivid narrative. He is almost exclusively known for writing The Histories, a record of his "inquiries" (or ἱστορίαι, a word that passed into Latin and took on its modern meaning of history) into the origins of the Greco-Persian Wars which occurred in 490 and 480-479 BC—especially since he includes a narrative account of that period, which would otherwise be poorly documented; and many long digressions concerning the various places and peoples he encountered during wide-ranging travels around the lands of the Mediterranean and Black Sea. Although some of his stories were not completely accurate, he claimed that he was reporting only what had been told to him. From Wikipedia under the

Indeed he has been called the father of history. So why does the denial kick in when it comes to what he has to say about Egypt? Herodotus states: "For my part I believe the Colchi to be a colony of Egyptians, because like them they have black skins and frizzled hair." Then with slavery, they had to justify oppressing these great people. So they took Egypt out of Africa, and said the natives were "red" or "brown" not Black. Which is stupid because Black people are usually red or brown. Egyptians wore braided styles and locs that we STILL see today on African descendents. When was the last time you saw a white person with braids or locs? The "dreadlocks" you see on white people are rarely even, uniform, and neat like on Black people. But the paintings in tombs depict a person wearing even, uniform locs or braids. Most Ancient Egyptian women did not cover their breasts, although they… [cont.] Answered by UsualSuspect - Thu Aug 23 12:14:44 2007 where are the original herodotus books?
Q. I am curious to know what they were written on and if they still exist and if so can the public view them? Asked by knight - Sat Jan 6 14:05:37 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. The first copies of Herodotus would have been written on papyrus (5th century BC). Papyrus was made from reed fibres. You can see some pictures if you go to this page: As you can see, it's only fragmentary, and the Oxyrhyncus papyri are in relatively good condition, being preserved by the dry atmosphere of the Egyptian desert. There are some notes about the history of the text on this page: As you will see, modern editions of the Histories are based on manuscripts from the 10th to 14th centuries, because the older copies were lost or destroyed. Here are a couple more pictures I found on google: You could probably see something like this in a museum or a library somewhere near you, but I don't know where, I'm afraid.
