From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Family denotes a group of people or animals (many species form the equivalent of a human family wherein the adults care for the young) affiliated by consanguinity, affinity or co-residence. Although the concept of consanguinity originally referred to relations by "blood", anthropologists have argued that one must understand the idea of "blood" metaphorically and that many societies understand family through other concepts rather than through genetic distance. One of the primary functions of the family is to produce and reproduce persons—biologically and socially. Thus, one's experience of one's family shifts over time. From the perspective of children, the family is a family of orientation: the family serves to locate children socially and plays a major role in their enculturation and socialization. From the point of view of the parent(s), the family is a family of procreation, the goal of which is to produce and enculturate and socialize children. However, producing children is not the only function of the family; in societies with a sexual division of labor, marriage, and the resulting relationship between two people, is necessary for the formation of an economically productive household. A conjugal family includes only the husband, the wife, and unmarried children who are not of age. The most common form of this family is regularly referred to in sociology as a nuclear family. A consanguineal family consists of a parent and his or her children, and other people. A matrilocal family consists of a mother and her children. Generally, these children are her biological offspring, although adoption of children is a practice in nearly every society. This kind of family is common where women have the resources to rear their children by themselves, or where men are more mobile than women. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How to leave my estate to my grandchildren? Q. I have a 40 acre Emu ranch and would like to leave my daughter, my son and my four grandchildren an inheritance. The problem is that my son has remarried and his wife has custody of his children. My daughter is living on 2 acres that I deeded to her and her ex-husband. She has remarried to a wonderful man that has no interest in any claim to what was hers before the marriage. My question is how can I set up my estate so that my son's ex-wife and his current wife and my daughters ex cannot have a legal claim to what I wish to go to my son, daughter, and grandchildren? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Asked by messenger - Mon Sep 4 13:47:25 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. The most economical way to leave an estate to anyone is with a trust, not a will. Contact a good experienced trust attorney who will create a "revokable trust" (meaning changeable to your wishes) that will immediately become effective upon your death. There's no probate or estate taxes, cannot easily be challenged like a will can be, and it's immediate instead of years in the court system. It costs more to set up a trust so have your beneficiaries pay for those fees rather than paying estate fees when they have other things to worry about. You do not have to be rich for a trust... you just have to be smart. Why do attorneys prefer to sell wills??? Because they get paid up front plus at the back end in carrying out your wishes in the… [cont.] Answered by INACTIVE - Mon Sep 4 13:54:21 2006 If I adopt an adult will their children legally be my grandchildren? As for her legal gaurdians, that would be up to everyone to decide. if they want part of her life then they can be.
