What british economic policy caused colonists to burn the Gaspee?
Q. What british economic policy caused colonists to burn the Gaspee? Do you think the colonists were justified in their acts of rebellion, or should they have taken some other course of action for this?
Asked by Richard - Tue Dec 30 17:52:10 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Gaspee was a British schooner patrolling the Rhode Island Bays when it spied a vessel suspected of smuggling. It gave chase but got stuck and men from colonial boats boarded the Gaspee, set the crew ashore, and burned it to the waterline. The colonists were protesting the Navigation Acts that prevented colonial trade with any nation but England. They were also protesting the custom duties they had to pay on bringing items into the colonies. Because the Gaspee was a royal vessel, the attack upon it was an act of rebellion. The colonists had better luck when they used the boycott of British goods to protest British laws.

Why British people occupy the seats which others reserved?
Q. I can't understand why British people occupy the train seats which others reserved. Some will not move even if they are asked to do so. Please tell me how to cope with these arrogant people.

A. Some people just seem to believe that rules are made to be broken. People like that probably also enjoy a bit of a confrontation - it's a chance for them to feel powerful. So if I were you, I'd just ask them once nicely, "Excuse me, I have a reservation for this seat, would you mind awfully moving?" Then if they don't have the grace to move straightaway, just walk away, and perhaps look for a member of staff to deal with them. I assume these trains you're talking about are in England? If it's abroad you're talking about, I think it would be fair to assume that the British people concerned were just ignorant of the system - in Italy for instance, seat reservations aren't displayed on the seats, you have to occupy the seat specified on… [cont.]

What would the british have to do to win the revolutionary war?
Q. To prepare for the war and if we didn't know the outcome, what tactics or strategies would the British need to win the Revolutionary War?

A. Break ranks and use the land for cover and engagement areas. Up until then, the biggest problem in war was having enough bodies to outlast the barrage of fighters. So armies went face to face against each other. In the revolutionary war, america knew if they went face to face, they would be defeated. And they were many battles that the british won because they were fought on open plains. But america adapted to the terrain and realized that england outnumbered them. So they hit on the paths, trails, and tight crevices. They attacked brittain from different vantage points, keeping the size of england's millitary out of the picture. But the british didn't realize this, and kept on marching in ranks. Of course, if the war was closer to… [cont.]
