From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. An animator is an artist who creates multiple images called frames and key frames that form an illusion of movement called animation when rapidly displayed. Animators can work in a variety of fields including film, television, video games, and the internet. Usually, an animation piece requires the collaboration of several animators. The methods of creating the images or frames for an animation piece depends on the animators' artistic styles and their field. Other artists who contribute to animated cartoons, but who are not animators, include layout artists (who design the backgrounds, lighting, and camera angles), storyboard artists (who draw panels of the action from the script), and background artists (who paint the "scenery"). Moreover, voice actors, musicians and other talent may be added as necessary to give the animation additional depth. Specialized fieldsAmong the specialized categorizations of animators are character animators (artists who specialize in character movement, dialogue, acting, etc.) and special effects animators (who animate anything that is not a character; most commonly vehicles, machinery, and natural phenomena such as rain, snow, and water). GNU Free Documentation License Can you become an animator with a computer science degree? Q. I am planning on getting an undergraduate degree in computer science. Is this an impressive thing to put on your resume if you want to become an animator and/or apply for a job in the animation industry? Has anyone done this? By the way, I dont mean Computer Animation, since my school doesnt offer it. I mean plain old computer science, so I will be learning general skills such as C++ programming and software development, etc... Thanks! I plan on majoring in it because my two career possibilities I can't decide between both would require it: Visual Media and Criminal Justice. Everything from animation, to 2D& 3D animation, to graphic design, to programming can be done with such a degree. The careers a CS degree has to offer are continuously growing and since the major covers a wide variety of computer-related topics, it is good for a number of careers. On top of that, those graduating in the major have declined, making CS majors more in demand. The fears of outsourcing and the dot.com scare have frightened potential CS students. While those majoring in it have declined, the need for CS students… [cont.] Answered by MCase - Thu Sep 11 08:49:00 2008 What courses do you need to take in highschool if you want to become an animator? Q. What courses do you need to take in highschool if you want to become an animator? Is University of Toronto a good choice to get in to the arts area? Do you need math such as calculus or science to become an animator? Asked by pasta - Mon Jan 28 01:42:10 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. It depends if you want tradtional hand-drawn animation or 3D computer animation. 3D animation involves a lot of Cartesian coordinates and things like pitch, roll, and yaw. If your school has engineering drafting, that would be a good thing to take, believe it or not. It would be awesome if you could find a class in Lightwave 3D or 3D Studio Max. The link below has some good information on becoming an animator. Check out the International Academy of Design and Technology in Toronto. The California Institute for the Arts in Valencia, California has a great character animation program and has close ties to Disney. Q. I technically want to know what I need to do to become a Anime artist/ animator. Asked by Belle M - Thu Mar 5 18:56:53 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. uhhh... sorry to break your bubble, but you can't go to a college majoring in "the anime business" first off you need to get a degree in movie making and film then proceed with a job at either pixar or any other animation company you can get into animation that way not high paying though plus you will never direct anime in your life, the percentage of someone who doesn't live in asia producing an anime (a japanese animation most of the time based on manga) is almost nothing... i've done my research and i study anime/manga as a hobby during my free time. i wish you luck in the animation business ^_~ Answered by Perfect Worst Nightmare - Thu Mar 5 20:10:01 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "animator" Disney Dream to test waters of onboard interactivity
